Louis Elliot and Jonny Bull began their Brit-pop ventures in fall 1991 under the pretext of Kinky Machine. With a dedicated, albeit little craze next, they bust into the U.K. Top Ten in 1992 and added a Manic Street Preachers tour of duty to their certificate. 1993 brought a debut album and a 1995 sophomore drive, Bent; however, their style decreased in curio as acts of the Apostles like Elastica exploded internationally. This, fueled by management and crisscross woes, caused Kinky Machine to shoot. Early in 1997 Bull and Elliot, along with the latter's former ally and bassist Julian Taylor, drummer Pete Cuthbert, and Toby Hounsham, world Health Organization responded to an advertizement placed in the Melody Maker, rejoined and formed Rialto. Their unusual list is traced back to a local U.K. (now insolvent) theater chain. This cinematic reference is reproducible with Elliot's captivation with films, soundtracks and oodles, as they admit to organism heavily influenced by celluloid. They cite industry giants such as Elvis Costello, Lloyd Cole, Leonard Cohen, Elliot Smith, Brian Wilson, Ennio Morricone and John Barry as influences and objects of their melodic admiration.

Second drummer Anthony Christmas is a major subscriber to this band's strange legal, following the musical footsteps of Phil Spector and Adam and the Ants with deuce coincidental, equi-balanced drummers. Given an eight-track home plate studio apartment by their recording company, they emerged late in 1997 (under Bull's production talents and Elliot's lyric guidance) with a new, innovative key signature good and contractable tunes chock full of script-like, empathic tales.

In 1997 they produced their first gear singles, "When We're Together" and "Inaccessible." The latter was re-released in January 1998; it chop-chop penetrated the Top 20 and was soon accompanied by their side by side individual, "Pipe dream Another Dream." Despite their proved success and much anticipated arrival of their self-titled debut album, East-West Records dropped them. China Records, the label under which Morcheeba rose to renown, released Rialto's album in July 1998. The six-track Girl on a Train followed deuce years by and by, receiving accolades from NME and Q. By the sentence Rialto collected to make a second album, Hounsham had left the chemical group. Rialto was now a four-piece and they exhausted most of 2001 perfecting electronic sounds for Night on Earth, which was issued in March 2002.

Dead Meadow's singular marriage of Sabbath riffs, languorous layers of guitars bull blissfulness, and vocalist Jason Simon's high-pitched melodic croon sustain wond over both psychedelic pop/rock and stoner-rock fans likewise. Although the band's members met patch attending all-ages punk shows in and around Washington D.C.'s punk/indie scene, the trio's sound draws more than of their sound from such classic rock legends as Pink Floyd and Black Sabbath. The trio formed in the diminish of 1998 out the ashes of local indie rock bands The Impossible Five and Coulour by singer-guitarist Jason Simon, bassist Steve Kille, and drummer Mark Laughlin. The three members pose out to fuse their love of early 70's difficult rock and 60's psychedelia with their love of fantasy and horror writers J.R.R. Tolkien and H.P. Lovecraft.

They released their six-song debut album in 1999 on Fugazi bassist Joe Lally's Tolotta Records and a joint vinyl release on D.C. indie label Planaria Records. Then in 2001 the band released its arcsecond and third albums, Howls from The Hills and Dead Meadow, on Tollotta Records. In a sanely inadequate period the D.C. trio received offers to tour of duty with everyone from local D.C. flower people The Make-Up to seedy psychedelic bikers Brian Jonestown Massacre; eventually, they landed the opening slot for high profile indie veterans Guided by Voices. The mathematical group was besides invited to record live for long clip newspaper clipping edge British wireless personality John Peel for BBC Radio One. Got Live If You Want It! arrived in 2002; that year, the ring missed Laughlin and found a unexampled drummer in Stephen McCarty. The band touched to Matador for 2003's breakthrough Shivering King and Others. Cory Shane coupled the ring in meter for 2005's Feathers.

Dianne Reeves has had a quite confusing calling. Blessed with a selfsame attractive voice and the ability to be the premier wind singer of this geological era, Reeves seems reluctant to stick to jazz. Her recordings are much sooner schizophrenic affairs, rarely arrival the heights of her exciting live performances. Reeves sang (and recorded) with her senior high schooling banding and was bucked up by Clark Terry, playacting with him while a college educatee at the Univesity of Colorado. She did sitting shape in Los Angeles starting in 1976, toured with Sergio Mendes (1981) and Harry Belafonte (1984), and number one started recording as a solo artist in 1982, presently becoming a conversant name on the festival circuit. Finally, in 1994, later on unfirm back and forth between jazz, pop, and African euphony, Reeves started to pull herself more to jazz, recording the first of several strong jazz sets for Blue Note.

Simmons attacks 'boring' live bands

Kiss rocker Gene Simmons has hit out at bands who fail to put on energetic live shows, reports WENN.

Simmons criticised British band Radiohead, saying that they owed it to their fans to put on a spectacular performance.

He is quoted as saying: "I admire bands like Radiohead, but the idea of being that serious? F*** that, get up on stage and blow s*** up!

"Bands that stand by their microphones and strum their guitars are forgetting one important point - people are bringing their eyes, it's audio and visual. If you're not fulfilling the visual part, it's like watching a movie with your eyes closed.

"One of the biggest compliments we get is [people saying], 'I f***ing hate their music but that's the best show I ever saw in my life'."

Joe Dolan remembered in Mullingar

More than 2,000 people gathered at the Cathedral of Christ the King in Mullingar for the funeral of the singer and entertainer Joe Dolan.
Among the first to arrive at the funeral this morning were leading figures in the Irish entertainment industry, including  Paddy Cole, Dickie Rock, Ronnie Drew, Brendan Grace and Oliver Barry.
The homily at the Requiem Mass was delivered by the Fr Brian Darcy.
The mourners heard how the 68-year-old singer secretly gave tens of thousands of euro to the poor during his career.
Speaking to a gathering at the Cathederal, Fr Darcy said Dolan had wanted the donations to remain private throughout his life.
Fr Darcy said that Dolan and his band were pioneers of the Celtic Tiger era because they brought joy and entertainment to a very dull nation in the 1960s.
The burial after the funeral mass was in Walshestown Cemetery.

J.J. Abrams to Make Movie About World’s Most Annoying Interior Designer

Photo: Getty Images
If you read that New York Times story last week about the mystery apartment on Fifth Avenue, you may have thought that the family profiled, as well as their architect, was a tragic example of people genuinely at a loss for ways to spend their money without doing anything tacky like giving it to the poor. J.J. Abrams, however, thought it sounded like a great movie. Abrams has purchased the rights to the article, by Penelope Green, which explains how a family of financial types Steven B. Klinsky (who runs his own private-equity firm) and Maureen Sherry (who apparently chose a good moment to leave Bear Stearns) hired architectural designer Eric Clough to renovate their $8.5 million Fifth Avenue apartment and Clough — without their permission — added all kinds of cranks and secret doors and hidden panels to make their house into a big whimsical puzzle for their amusement.

Unfortunately, Abrams probably won't focus the movie on the most interesting part of the story, which is that Clough probably belongs in an insane asylum. For instance, one of the delightful "clues" the family discovered — in their brand-new $8.5 million apartment! — was that a part of the parents' custom-made bed snapped off for no reason. Luckily, this particular family found the game delightful, but others probably would've suspected that they'd paid 50 times the price for particle-board furniture.

Abrams is going to have to make a few changes to the story if he expects it to actually be appealing. We'd suggest making the family poor and having them inherit the apartment (from dead long-lost uncle or something), because they'd probably be a lot more sympathetic if they didn't have a choice about living in a real-life National Treasure. Frankly, we'd like to see Abrams movie about a New York apartment with a more authentic puzzle, such as the Mystery of the Unpredictable Hot-Water Supply, or the Mouse Who Can Fit Through a One-Centimeter Hole. —Linda Holmes

Oneal Gets Candid About Drug Problems On Street Corner

A candid TATUM O'NEAL staged an impromptu press conference on the streets of New York on Wednesday (04Jun08) after she was cornered by cameramen and journalists quizzing her about her drug arrest.

The embattled actress has been charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance after cops caught her exchanging money with a dealer three blocks from her home.

But rather than run away from her problems, O'Neal chose to address the media members who followed her out of her home of Wednesday afternoon, and then stopped to chat with them as she waited on a street corner for a taxi.

The 44-year-old said, "Every day is a great day if I'm not using," before insisting, "I have peace in my life, I made a mistake... I have a very good life. I made a bad mistake and unfortunately I'm well known and this is what happens."

O'Neal also told the gathered press that she was attending a 12-step drug abuse program daily, adding "That's really helping."

The actress concluded her 10 minute street corner chat by telling the media members, "It's an everyday struggle and you try to do the best that you can and some days, unfortunately, it doesn't pan out the way you'd like it too."

Tivo Users Dont Skip Movie Ads

Commercials for new movies are the least likely to be skipped by users of TiVo digital

found that the least fast-forwarded (and most-watched) ad was for Universal's comed
y film Forgetting Sarah Marshall, which aired during NBC's The Office.
(The episode itself, however, did not even make TiVo's list of the ten most-watched
shows.) The second least fast-forwarded ad was for Sony Pictures' Hancock
which aired during an episode of ABC's Grey's Anatomy. Other movies making the
top-ten list included Sony's Made of Honor (#4), Universal's Baby Mama
(#7), and Paramount/Marvel's Iron Man (#10).
