Imax off to the races in Dubai
TORONTO -- Imax is targeting one of its super-sized screens for installation next to the Nad Al Sheba race course in Dubai.
The screen, which is expected to open by the end of 2009, will be installed by United Arab Emirates property developer Meydan LLC.
The move brings to 12 the number of Middle Eastern Imax locations set to open by 2010.

Simmons attacks 'boring' live bands
Kiss rocker Gene Simmons has hit out at bands who fail to put on energetic live shows, reports WENN.
Simmons criticised British band Radiohead, saying that they owed it to their fans to put on a spectacular performance.
He is quoted as saying: "I admire bands like Radiohead, but the idea of being that serious? F*** that, get up on stage and blow s*** up!
"Bands that stand by their microphones and strum their guitars are forgetting one important point - people are bringing their eyes, it's audio and visual. If you're not fulfilling the visual part, it's like watching a movie with your eyes closed.
"One of the biggest compliments we get is [people saying], 'I f***ing hate their music but that's the best show I ever saw in my life'."

Baby girl for Spelling & McDermott
Former 'Beverly Hills 90210' star Tori Spelling and her husband Dean McDermott have welcomed their second child, a baby girl.
According to People magazine, the baby, who will be named Stella Doreen McDermott, weighed 6lbs 8oz when she was born at a Los Angeles hospital via C-section.
Spelling had previously revealed that she was expecting a girl, saying: "I've always wanted a little girl since I'm such a girly girly."
"I immediately started crying. I couldn't believe it. I have my beautiful little boy and now I'll have my little girl. It's amazing."
Spelling and McDermott already have a 1-year-old son called Liam Aaron.

Joe Dolan remembered in Mullingar
More than 2,000 people gathered at the Cathedral of Christ the King in Mullingar for the funeral of the singer and entertainer Joe Dolan.
Among the first to arrive at the funeral this morning were leading figures in the Irish entertainment industry, including Paddy Cole, Dickie Rock, Ronnie Drew, Brendan Grace and Oliver Barry.
The homily at the Requiem Mass was delivered by the Fr Brian Darcy.
The mourners heard how the 68-year-old singer secretly gave tens of thousands of euro to the poor during his career.
Speaking to a gathering at the Cathederal, Fr Darcy said Dolan had wanted the donations to remain private throughout his life.
Fr Darcy said that Dolan and his band were pioneers of the Celtic Tiger era because they brought joy and entertainment to a very dull nation in the 1960s.
The burial after the funeral mass was in Walshestown Cemetery.

Bruce Springsteen Pays Tribute To Late Broadcaster Tim Russert
Bruce Springsteen paid an emotional tribute to the late broadcast journalist Tim Russert during a concert in Wales at the weekend.
Russert, who presented America's acclaimed show Meet The Press, died last Friday after suffering a heart attack.
Appearing via video link at Russert's memorial service, Springsteen recalled seeing Russert's “big Irish smile” during a performance on America's Today Show.
“It was beaming like an Irish sun. We were always flattered and honoured to have Tim as part of our E Street Band community,” Springsteen said.
Springsteen then played 'Thunder Road', Russert's favourite song, in memory of the broadcaster.

J.J. Abrams to Make Movie About World’s Most Annoying Interior Designer

If you read that New York Times story last week about the mystery apartment on Fifth Avenue, you may have thought that the family profiled, as well as their architect, was a tragic example of people genuinely at a loss for ways to spend their money without doing anything tacky like giving it to the poor. J.J. Abrams, however, thought it sounded like a great movie. Abrams has purchased the rights to the article, by Penelope Green, which explains how a family of financial types Steven B. Klinsky (who runs his own private-equity firm) and Maureen Sherry (who apparently chose a good moment to leave Bear Stearns) hired architectural designer Eric Clough to renovate their $8.5 million Fifth Avenue apartment and Clough — without their permission — added all kinds of cranks and secret doors and hidden panels to make their house into a big whimsical puzzle for their amusement.
Unfortunately, Abrams probably won't focus the movie on the most interesting part of the story, which is that Clough probably belongs in an insane asylum. For instance, one of the delightful "clues" the family discovered — in their brand-new $8.5 million apartment! — was that a part of the parents' custom-made bed snapped off for no reason. Luckily, this particular family found the game delightful, but others probably would've suspected that they'd paid 50 times the price for particle-board furniture.
Abrams is going to have to make a few changes to the story if he expects it to actually be appealing. We'd suggest making the family poor and having them inherit the apartment (from dead long-lost uncle or something), because they'd probably be a lot more sympathetic if they didn't have a choice about living in a real-life National Treasure. Frankly, we'd like to see Abrams movie about a New York apartment with a more authentic puzzle, such as the Mystery of the Unpredictable Hot-Water Supply, or the Mouse Who Can Fit Through a One-Centimeter Hole. —Linda Holmes
